Day 8: You Don’t Need Everybody To Like You.

I have never quite understood why God created humans with the desire to be liked by everybody. In theory, the concept of constantly needing to be liked makes no sense but reality begs to differ. I can understand our constant need to be loved or to be appreciated. Or the human desire to be affirmed or celebrated. It’s an almost childlike trait that we seem to never outgrow.

I have come to realize that you can be perfect and someone will still not like you. 50 people could cheer you on yet the 2 who don’t will stand out like a sore thumb and make you sulk. Why is this? Why do we pay more attention to the ones who don’t rate us? The ones who don’t like us are the ones we are desperately bending over backwards to please meanwhile there’s a crowd rooting for you. Waiting for you to show up and be badass. Yet there you are, sulking away in the shadows because two people have decided you are not their flavor.

Why do humans desire to be liked by everyone, really? I am not sure I’ll ever be able to answer this question but I also won’t dwell on it too much. Everyone does not need to like you my darling. Lean into the people who show up for you, who support you and shut out the noise.

I saw a quote once that said ‘‘you could be the juiciest peach and someone won’t roll with you simply because they don’t roll with peaches’’.

Release yourself from the shackles of wanting to be liked by everyone, my love. That’s not your cup of tea. Matter of fact, you are not even everyone’s cup of tea. Some people like coffee, others like tea, some don’t even like tea at all. You probably don’t even like everyone if you are being honest so why expect to be the crowd favorite. That’s not to say some people won’t be rude and disrespectful simply because they don’t like you. But ignore the bullies. Don’t let them be able to chip at you or your self confidence. Put them in their place always but focus on the love, only. Take constructive criticism because you are not perfect- no one is. So even when your tribe criticizes, always ensure it is from a place of love and listen.

The Lord, Jesus Christ, came to earth as a man and was without sin nor blemish, yet mankind voted for him to swap places with a proven murderer who was on death row. So who are you to have this lofty expectations of people? Release yourself and focus on the love, okay? Okay.

Love and light
